Chief Logan State Park has 12 hiking trails that lead to beautiful overlooks, scenic vistas, and mountain scenery. The trails range from 0.5 miles to 6 miles; easy to difficult. This system of trails is interconnected, giving you options for longer hikes.

The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System is located nearby for even more adventure. This is one of the longest off-road trail systems in the United States. ATVs are available to rent from local entrepreneurs.

Attractions

Visit the nearby town of Logan, the namesake of Chief Logan State Park. Logan, as well as other small towns surrounding the state park, have options for dining, entertainment, and shopping.

The Coal Heritage Trail is a driving trail that celebrates the hardworking miners who produced coal, which brought energy to modern America. This 187-mile trail winds through 13 counties, giving you scenic views of the rugged landscape and its industrial heritage.

Lodging, Cabins, and Campgrounds

It’ll take more than a day to explore the area, but don’t worry, Chief Logan State Park has a lodge, cabins, and a campground to accommodate your multiday expedition.

The Chief Logan Lodge is a 75-room facility that features modern rooms and executive suites…plus a full-service restaurant, guest laundry, WiFi, an indoor pool, fitness room and hot tub.

The park also has three newly-built cabins for rent. Each cabin has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and large living areas. They feature wireless internet, a smart TV, fireplace, deck, fire pit, and a kitchen with range, refrigerator/freezer, and cookware. Linens are provided.

The campground is around the mountain from the lodge and cabins. There are 26 campsites, 14 of which have full water, electric, and sewer hookups, and the other 12 have water and electric.
